Google Maps in the UK & Ireland

Google has gone outside of North america for Google Maps. It now includes the UK and Ireland.

I’m delighted to introduce Google Local UK and Google Maps UK. The Google UK office and a few of us homesick Brits in California have been helping out with the development.

Kim: Have you ever tried the directions option of Google Maps? I did and got some strange results. The cool thing is that Google Maps is linked to “Google Satellite Maps” so you can see the buildings, etc along the route. Unfortunately, some areas only have low resolution satellite photos.

I did try the directions, and for the searches I put in, it was pretty accurate. In Lethbridge, it even put me on a street with a higher speed limit and less lights.
Of course, I hadn’t tried to many searches. I did notice though that some of the address searches I’ve done have been off by a few houses.
I guess Google gets around that by saying it’s in Beta. 😉
