Earlier this week, Corrections Service Canada announced that last month, staff at the Collins Bay prison in Kingston, Ontario seized several packages that they suspect were thrown over the outside barrier.
They reported that the contents of the packages were contraband and unauthorized. Here’s what was in them:
Cannabis products
- Marijuana: 1.2 kg
- Shatter: 178.6 g
Other drugs
- Fentanyl: 29.1g
- Heroin–fentanyl mixture: 6.2 g
- Crystal meth: 2.7 g
- Ecstacy: 9.5 g
- Angel dust: 54.5 g
Tobacco products
- Tobacco: 2.84 kg
- Cigarettes: 212 g
- Cigars: 23
- Rolling papers: 7,420
- Banana leaves for rolling” 93.6g
Liquid
- Believed to be alcohol: 4.5 litres
Electronics
- Cell phones: 22
- SIM cards: 28
- Charging cords: 21
- Charging blocks: 19
- USB cords: 4
- Ear buds: 3
Other
- Roll of black tape and a screwdriver
The statement claimed the contents of the packages were worth over $350,000.
I guess the big takeaway from this is that people are smuggling in mostly tobacco and marijuana products, as well as electronics, into Canadian prisons. Or rather, into this specific one.
Even if you add up all the other drugs found, it amounts to less than just the amount of shatter that prison cops found.
Now, obviously, this wasn’t all for personal consumption, and the electronics were probably mostly—if not exclusively—for facilitating drug dealing.
Which makes me wonder what the point of putting drug dealers in prison is if they’re just going to deal drugs there, too.
