UCP choose power engineer as small business parliamentary secretary

The UCP government announced over the weekend that they were appointing Martin Long as the parliamentary secretary for small business and tourism.

Part of his responsibilities will be to work with Doug Schweitzer, the minister of jobs, economy, and innovation, to implement Alberta’s Recovery Plan.

Prior to being elected, Long worked as a third-class power engineer with Alberta Newsprint Company in Whitecourt.

Typically, power engineers are responsible for the operation, maintenance, renovation, and repair of boiler systems and other mechanical systems in a facility.

Long’s appointment is the fourth appointment of a UCP MLA to parliamentary secretary.

Last year, Muhammad Yaseen was appointed parliamentary secretary of immigration and Laila Goodridge was appointed parliamentary secretary over Alberta’s Francophonie. This past March, Jeremy Nixon was appointed parliamentary secretary to the minister of Community and Social Services.

The skills he developed fixing boiler systems will come in handy as he fixes the economy.
