Alberta coal production plummeted in 2021
Last year, Alberta’s coal industry saw its lowest production levels in over a decade.
As of last February, there were still over 1,000 coal leases and over 500 coal lease applications active in Alberta.
The 15-year leases cover 1,853 hectares and were awarded to 2 Australian mining companies.
Last week, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada announced that a public hearing will be held later this year regarding the Grassy Mountain Coal Project.
