IUOE Local 955 has filed the application on behalf of 112 workers employed at Syncrude sites in northern Alberta.
Last month, nurses in Alberta voted over 60% to reject the recommendations from informal mediation. Now, they’re proceeding with formal mediation. If that falls through, nurses may hold a strike vote.
The contract comes with increases to wages, bereavement, leave, lead hand premiums, RRSP contributions, and a new stat holiday.
The workers, who are employed in Calgary, Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, and Lethbridge, recently voted 70% to reject a tentative agreement. Their last contract expired over 1.5 years ago.
These two dozen museum and art galleries have finally received a multi-year contract. And they’ll also get their first wage increase since 2019.
The company took an arbitrator’s decision to court because they thought the wage increases their workers got were too high.
These workers unionized back in March and were able to negotiate their first collective agreement in just 3 months, getting wage increases, health benefits, paid vacations, sick leave, bereavement leave, overtime, and a clothing allowance.
These workers, which include municipal workers who work inside and outside, finally have a new contract, which includes significant wage increases.
Unfortunately, it won’t be enough to cover increases in inflation.
