Last week, Alberta’s lieutenant governor approved the appointment of two new people to the Northern Alberta Development Council. The appointment came at the recommendation of Tanya Fir, the minister of economic development, trade, and tourism.
According to their website, the Northern Alberta Development Council “advances the promise of Alberta’s North” by helping “the region’s 150 communities and 350,000 people realize their rich potential and strengthen their diverse economies.”
The new members are:
- Omer Moghrabi
- Loretta Lieverse
Omer Moghrabi is the mayor of Lac La Biche and owns a sporting goods store in Lac La Biche. He has also made several donations to political parties: $562.50 to the Alberta NDP in 2016 and $600 in 2018, as well as $500 to the Bonnyvile–Cold Lake–St. Paul UCP constituency association last year.
Loretta Lieverse is a partner with MNP in Grande Prairie. I found no record of political donations from Lieverse.
Both of these new members will serve until 2022. No mention was made of whether board members receive remuneration, but committee members received between $879 and $$3,206 in compensation last year.
