Lemon

  1. The first taste of lemon
  2. is one of disgust
  3. recoil
  4. mistrust
  5. We shut our eyes, as if that lessens the pucker.
  6. But then we dilute it,
  7. sweeten it,
  8. pour it over ice, and
  9. sell it for a dollar and become a summer memory for passersby.
  10. Then we find in it creaminess,
  11. iciness,
  12. deliciousness.
