Utterly destroyed

  1. Cities they did not build
    • Houses they did not fill
    • Wells they did not drill
    • Vineyards they did not hill
  2. They claimed
    • That the Lord gave these to them
    • That they were a chosen people
    • That the land was promised to them
  3. A land that was already peopled
  4. Someone else built those cities
    • filled those houses
    • drilled those wells
    • hilled those vineyards
  5. The cities
    • and houses
    • and wells
    • and vineyards
    • did not fall from the windows of heaven
  6. They were already there when they arrived
  7. Someone else lived in those cities
    • lived in those homes
    • drew from those wells
    • plucked from those vineyards.
  8. Men, women, and children were in those cities
    • and houses
    • and wells
    • and vineyards
  9. And they were in the way of the chosen people
    • Of the promised land
  10. They took all the cities of Sihon
    • and the cities of Og
    • and Jericho
  11. They killed the men
    • and the women
    • and the children
    • and the little ones
  12. They utterly destroyed the young and old
    • of Sihon
    • of Og
    • of Jericho
    • of Gaza

This poem was prompted by Deuteronomy chapters 2, 3, and 6 and Joshua chapter 6.
