The workers have voted overwhelmingly in favour of striking for safer working conditions. Twice. However, the Liberal government stepped in to interfere with that constitutionally-protected freedom.
The Liberal federal labour minister interfered with their last one, causing it to expire. 90% of workers showed up and over 98% of them voted, once again, to strike.
Tens of thousands of rail workers in Canada, including over 3,000 in Alberta, have been negotiating new contracts. While some workers have been able to ratify a new collective agreement, others have voted to strike, citing safety concerns.
