The certificates include continuing care workers, fish and game workers, sand mining workers, rail workers, and film production workers.
This is more than they received in their previous contract.
This shouldn’t surprise anyone though. It’s been like this for at least a decade.
The contract incudes shift premiums, a cost-of-living subsidy, and health benefits.
But, unsurprisingly, they fall short of inflation, especially following 2 years of wage freezes.
And they were all women workers. The province also saw the largest loss in overall jobs in Canada.
Roughly 2,500 workers in Calgary and the surrounding area, as well as communities near Edmonton will vote this weekend on whether to strike.
But this comes after 6 years in a row of wage freezes.
These workers have been waiting since last March for a new contract, and they called the latest offer from AHS “insulting”.
