Alberta pipefitters file for unionization

The 5 workers are employed by a company offering service and testing of fire protection systems.

Earlier this week, the Alberta Labour Relations Board released their most recent New Applications Report. In the report is a new application for union certification in Alberta.

The application was filed on 28 April 2023 by Local 496 of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada.

This union is applying on behalf of all general construction sprinkler fitters employed with Allied Projects Fire Protection Systems LTD.

The Edmonton-based employer services and inspects fire sprinkler systems and components in commercial and industrial applications. They also operate out of Calgary.

According to the application, if the union certification is approved, it would apply to roughly 5 workers.

The ALRB has scheduled a hearing for this application to occur on 15 May 2022.

Since the ALRB doesn’t archive their new application reports, here’s a copy of the most recent one.
