The Alberta Labour Relations Board publishes a list of all the certificates they’ve issued for unionized workplaces in the province.
They update it every month, with the latest update being 2 June 2025.
I thought I’d report on 4 certificates that the ALRB awarded in May 2025.
AgeCare Skypointe
The first certificate that the ALRB issued last month was actually two certificates at the same location: AgeCare Skypointe.
The two certificates are for those employed at the Calgary care home by 2 employers: Aramark Canada Ltd. and Aster Joint Venture Limited Partnership, a collaboration between AgeCare and Axium Infrastructure, a portfolio investment firm based in Montréal.
This certificate specifically covers those working in general support services. Workers employed at AgeCare SkyPointe in auxiliary nursing care have had a union certificate since March 2021.
ALRB issued both certificates on 5 May (which, coincidentally, was my 30th wedding anniversary).
Reftech International Inc.
The ALRB issued the next certificate 15 days later, on 20 May for workers employed with Reftech International Inc.
The certificate covers all the maintenance carpenters working for the Edmonton-based company specializing in refractory installation.
These workers will be represented by Local 1325 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
Town of Redwater
The very next day, on the 21st, workers employed with the Town of Redwater received their certificate from the ALRB.
I’m not sure when the workers filed the certification application, but they filed it for all municipal workers, except those working in office, or clerical positions.
They’ll be represented by Local 92 of the Construction and General Workers’ Union.
Fire Inspection Services Inc.
On the 22nd, the ALRB issued a certificate to workers employed with Fire Inspection Services Inc., a Calgary-based company offers fire equipment maintenance and inspection services.
These workers applied for certification at the end of April, so this approval process was less than a month long.
Local 424 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers will represent the non-construction electricians, which at the time of application amounted to just 3.
Silverado Seniors Village Partnership
Finally, the last certificate the ALRB issued last month went to workers employed by Silverado Seniors Village Partnership.
The Calgary-based employer operates the Silverado Creek Seniors Community, which is owned by Park Place Seniors Living.
The workers applied for their certification on 2 May, and the ALRB issued it on the 30th.
United Nurses of Alberta will represent the 20 or so workers who will be employed in direct nursing care or nursing instruction.
