Calgary cement masons trying to unionize

The OPCMIA union is trying to help 6 cement masons in Calgary to unionize.

Earlier this week, the Alberta Labour Relations Board released their most recent New Applications Report. In the report is a new application for union certification in Alberta.

The application was filed on 19 July 2022 by Local 222 of the Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ International Association of the United States and Canada.

OPCMIA is applying on behalf of 6 general construction cement masons who work for the Weston Construction Alberta Ltd., which is based in Calgary.

Interestingly, it looks as though Weston was incorporated as a business in Alberta just this past February.

The ALRB has scheduled a hearing for this application to occur on 3 August 2022.

Since the ALRB doesn’t archive their new application reports, here’s a copy of the most recent one.
