Calgary road maintenance workers try to unionize

The 20 workers are employed at Alberta Highway Services.

Earlier this week, the Alberta Labour Relations Board released their most recent New Applications Report. In the report is a new application for union certification in Alberta.

The application was filed on 3 March 2023 by Local 362 of the Teamsters Union.

This union is applying on behalf of all workers—other than office, clerical staff, and foremen—who are based out of the Calgary location of Alberta Highway Services Ltd., which produces road maintenance services throughout Alberta. They are based out of Edmonton but have a Calgary office.

According to the application, if the union certification is approved, it would apply to 20 employees working for Alberta Highway Services.

The ALRB has scheduled a hearing for this application to occur on 17 March 2022.

Since the ALRB doesn’t archive their new application reports, here’s a copy of the most recent one.
