Construction insulators file for union certification

The 16 workers are employed with a company that provides various construction services.

Last week, the Alberta Labour Relations Board released their most recent New Applications Report. In the report is a new application for union certification in Alberta.

The application was filed on 14 April 2023 by Local 1999 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. This union is applying on behalf of all general construction insulators employed by Brock Canada Industrial Ltd.

The Nisku-based employer offers various construction services, including scaffolding, fireproofing, coatings and linings, abrasive blasting, rope access, facilities maintenance, operations support, and of course, insulation. It is also part of the Texas-based Brock Group.

According to the application, if the union certification is approved, it would apply to 16 workers.

The ALRB has scheduled a hearing for this application to occur on 28 April 2022.

Since the ALRB doesn’t archive their new application reports, here’s a copy of the most recent one.

This is a scab union that’s being used to drive down wages and benefits for the already existing Insulation and Scaffolding unions in Alberta and BC
