Diamond International signs new contract with workers

It includes wage increases in each year of the 2-year agreement.

Last month, the Mediation Services department of Alberta Jobs, Economy, Trade, and Immigration published their December 2025 Bargaining Update.

The monthly report provides information about Alberta’s unionized workforce, primarily collective agreement settlement information the department received in December 2025.

In December, Mediation Services received settlement information regarding 40 bargaining relationships encompassing 21,601 employees. Of those relationships, 17 were in the private sector and 23 were in the public sector, covering 2,128 and 19,473 employees respectively.

One of those collective agreements was for about 20 workers employed by Diamond International Trucks Ltd.

Based out of Edmonton, Diamond is a franchised dealer of medium and heavy-duty trucks by the International brand.

This particular collective agreement covers all workers except service writers and sales personnel. According to the collective agreement, it is “all shop and parts personnel”.

They are members of Local 1722 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and include mechanics, parts technicians, shippers, control clerks, drivers, and labourers.

Their previous collective agreement expired at the end of last March. This new agreement was ratified over 5 months later, this past September.

The new agreement includes 2 percentage-based wage increases, the first of which was retroactive. Not all workers will get the same raise, however.

In their last contract, everyone got a 2% wage increase every year for 3 years.

By the time this new collective agreement expires, temporary workers will be the only ones making less than $20 an hour.

I could not find any other significant changes in the new collective agreement.
