In the first new applications report for February 2024, the Alberta Labour Relations Board included an application for a certification vote. If approved, it will allow workers to vote on whether to unionize.
Local 725 of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers filed the application on 29 January 2024 for workers employed by Rampart Steel.
Based out of Edmonton and founded in 1985, Rampart Steel specializes in the design, fabrication, and erection of structural steel and miscellaneous iron.
If the certification vote is approved, 30 general construction structural ironworkers would then vote on whether to join the union.
The ALRB has established a hearing for the application, which will give Rampart Steel the chance to argue, if they choose, why the workers shouldn’t be able to vote on whether to join Local 725. Teh hearing is scheduled for 12 February 2024.
If the workers are successful and choose to join the union, they will be represented by a province-wide collective agreement negotiated last January.
The ALRB doesn’t archive their new application reports, so I’ve included a copy of this week’s report below.

Hey Kim, it appears you included Teamsters application instead of the Iron Workers 725 application or do I have it wrong.
Hey, Blaine. I included the entire new applications report, which had both application summaries in it.
