Edmonton rail workers file to switch unions

Last week, the Alberta Labour Relations Board released a new applications report. In it was an application to certify a union.

Local 1-207 of the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union, also known simply as the United Steelworkers, filed the application on 8 April 2024.

They’re applying on behalf of workers employed by Cando Rail & Terminals GP Ltd. at the Imperial Oil Strathcona Refinery site. These 35 or so workers don’t include office or clerical workers.

Prior to this application, the workers were represented by Local 92 of the Laborers’ International Union of North America. Their most recent collective agreement expired earlier this month, on the 12th.

The workers include loaders, switching crews, and track maintenance crews.

Because the Alberta Labour Relations Board doesn’t archive their new application reports, I’ve included a copy of this report below.
