Where to celebrate Labour Day 2023 in Alberta

Several cities around the province are holding events to celebrate workers.

This year, labour councils across Alberta will host free events that are open to the public to commemorate Labour Day.

The statutory holiday has been celebrated on the first Monday of September since 1894, and is in line with Labor Day in the United States. However, the two countries are kind of outliers.

Over 80 other countries honour the labour of workers on 1 May, also known as May Day or International Workers’ Day, which itself originated as a day to remember the Haymarket affair, an 1886 protest in Chicago, Illinois.
