Following in the footsteps of Canada Post, the Town of Coaldale tried getting the government to force workers to vote on an unnegotiated offer. It backfired.
If successful, 7 workers would receive the protection and benefits that come with unionizing.
The worker had been working with the Ironworkers to try to unionize his workplace.
Over their last two contracts, these workers received 5 years of wage freezes, leading to a cut of nearly 19% to their real wages.
And our unemployment rate is the highest it has been since October 2021.
These workers will get a 9.5% raise in retroactive pay, as well as changes to bereavement leave, vacation time, parental leave, over time, and boot allowance.
Several cities around the province are holding events to celebrate workers.
If they’re successful, it would affect close to 200 workers.
Stationed at the company’s refinery in Lloydminster, these workers will get a 7% raise over the life of the contract, as well as paid bereavement leave, paid vacation time, and a dozen paid holidays.
If they’re successful, it would affect close to 25 workers.
