ALRB certified 4 more unionized workplaces

The certificates include ambulance attendants, education support workers, natural gas workers, and casino workers.

The Alberta Labour Relations Board publishes a list of all the certificates they’ve issued for unionized workplaces in the province.

They update it every month, with the latest update being 1 May 2025.

I thought I’d report on 4 certificates that the ALRB awarded in April 2025.

Associated Ambulance and Services (Whitecourt) Ltd.

The first certificate that the ALRB issued last month was for workers employed by Associated Ambulance and Services (Whitecourt) Ltd., which provides paramedical services in over 20 locations in Northern Alberta and Central Alberta. It’s the second largest ambulance operator in Alberta.

This certificate specifically covers those working as ambulance attendants in Red Deer.

These workers will be represented by Local 4351 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, who received the certificate on 2 April 2025. They had filed their application a little more than a month before, on 5 March 2025, for 28 workers.

Livingstone Range School Division No. 68

The ALRB issued the second certificate on 8 April for 90 workers employed with the Livingstone Range School Division No. 68.

The certificates cover all their workers in the Crowsnest Pass except teachers, all their custodial workers in Fort MacLeod, and all their office workers and aides in Pincher Creek and the Municipal District of Pincher Creek.

These workers will be represented by Local 2133 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

Canlin Energy Corp

Two days later, on the 10th, workers employed with Canlin Energy Corp received their certificate from the ALRB.

I’m not sure when Local 1400 filed the certification application, but they filed it for all workers at the company’s Wildcat Hills Plant and Wildcat Hills District fields, except those working in office, clerical, technical, and engineering positions.

The workers had been working in a voluntary recognition relationship with the employer. This formalizes that relationship.

In fact, they ratified a new collective agreement last spring.

Pure Casino Gaming Corp.

And last, but not least, was the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, who filed an application on behalf of 150 or so workers employed in Lethbridge by Pure Casino Gaming Corp.

They applied for certification back in December. It could’ve been successful sooner, but AUPE filed an complaint with the ALRB the following month, accusing them of unionbusting.

Looks like it all got worked out though because the workers voted in favour of unionizing, and the ALRB issued their certificate on 17 April 2025.
