Last month, the Mediation Services department of Alberta Jobs, Economy, and Trade published the March 2025 Bargaining Update.
This monthly report provides information about the unionized workforce, primarily in Alberta. In March, Mediation Services received settlement information regarding 14 private sector and 23 public sector bargaining settlements, covering 1,560 and 12,565 workers respectively.
Among those settlements was a contract for about 15 workers employed by Triangle Steel.
Based out of Calgary, Triangle Steel is the city’s oldest structural steel fabricator.
These workers are represented by Local 7226 of the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union, otherwise known as the United Steelworkers.
They include welders, drivers, painters, loaders, checkers, and machine operators.
Their previous contract expired in June 2024. This new contract was settled in December 2024, about 6 months later, but Mediation Services only recently received it.
This new collective agreement brings with it a 3% wage increase retroactive to 1 July 2024 and another 3% wage increase on 1 November 2025.
This is similar to the two 3% increases they received in their previous contract, except both of those came in each July. This new contract is delaying the second increase for 4 months for some reason.
Language has become more gender-inclusive, changing tradesman to tradesperson, for example; although there are still plenty examples of androcentric language throughout the document.
Other than that, not much else has changed in this document.
