Construction engineers file for unionization

If successful, this would affect about 3 workers.

Last week, the Alberta Labour Relations Board released their final New Applications Report of November. In the report is a new application for union certification in Alberta.

The application was filed on 23 November 2023 by Local 955 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

This union is applying on behalf of all general construction operating engineers employed by EPiK Energy and Renewables ULC.

Based out of Oklahoma in the United States, EPiK specializes in supplying road building and heavy lift equipment for construction projects, particularly in the renewable energy sector. The company has a location in Calgary.

If this certification is successful, it’ll apply to 3 workers.

The ALRB has scheduled a hearing for this application for 7 December 2023. The employer will have an opportunity then to present arguments for why certification shouldn’t occur at that location.

Since the ALRB doesn’t archive their new application reports, here’s a copy of this report.
