Edmonton carpenters file to unionize

If their application is approved by the Alberta Labour Relations Board, these 27 workers will be able to vote on whether to unionize.

Earlier this week, the Alberta Labour Relations Board released their first new applications report for March 2024. In it was an application for certifying a union.

Local 1325 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America filed the application on 26 February on behalf general construction carpenters employed with Pagnotta Inc.

Based out of Edmonton and with locations in British Columbia and Saskatchewan, Pagnotta specializes in concrete construction, construction management, and equipment services.

The ALRB has scheduled a hearing for 11 March, during which time the employer will have a chance to present arguements for why they think this application shouldn’t be approved to unionize with the specific union.

If the ALRB approves the application, the next step would be for the ALRB to hold a supervised vote, where the 27 workers affected by the application can choose whether to unionize with Local 1325.

Because the ALRB doesn’t archive their new application reports, I’ve included a copy of this report below.
