Electrical workers in Alberta have a new contract.
I recently received a copy of a new collective agreement between Magna IV Engineering and the electrical workers they employ in electrical high voltage testing and commissioning throughout Alberta, as well as in the District of MacKenzie in the Northwest Territories.
These workers are members of Local 424 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Their most recent collective agreement expired back in February, and their newest agreement is effective as of 27 November 2027.
During ratification, which was occurred on 26 November 2025, 25 workers voted in favour and just 6 voted against it.
Based out of Edmonton, Magna IV Engineering is a power and automation solutions provider, specializing in electrical engineering, automation services, and technical field service.
They have locations in Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray, and Grande Prairie.
The workers will see significant wage increases in their first year of their new 3-year collective agreement, which expires in November 2028.

The camp differential has increased from 6% of worked earnings to 10% of worked earnings. This is paid to workers who stay in a work camp for more than 5 calendar nights.
Finally, new to the collective agreement is a letter of understanding that outlines the employer will provide IBEW 424 with the following details in the event of a serious incident, such as when a worker dies or is hospitalized.
- Date and time

Update (17 December 2025): An earlier version of this article showed smaller wage increases than there actually were.
