Lloydminster boilermakers apply for union certification

The 15 workers are employed with LML Industrial Contractors.

A new applications report published last week on the Alberta Labour Relations Board website contained a new application for unionization.

The application was submitted on 8 November 2022 by Lodge 146 of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers, and Helpers, otherwise known as The Boilermakers. They’re applying for union certification for a group of 15 workers employed by LML Industrial Contractors Ltd.

Based out of Lloydminster, LML Industrial provides plant and field maintenance, shutdown/turnaround, and construction services in the energy and heavy industrial sectors throughout Western Canada.

The union is certifying for all the maintenance boilermakers employed by LML Industrial.

This is the second time Local 146 has applied for certification this month. At the beginning of the month, they applied on behalf of 6 Fort Saskatchewan boilermakers employed with Automated Fusion Inc.

The Alberta Labour Relations Board has scheduled a hearing for this application to take place on 23 November. The employer will have a chance then to oppose the certification.

Since the ALRB doesn’t archive their new application reports on their website, here’s a copy of the most recent one.
