Teamsters want to unionize Fort McMurray mechanics

The union is trying to organize workers in the transportation sector in northern Alberta.

Earlier this week, the Alberta Labour Relations Board released their most recent New Applications Report. In the report is a new application for union certification in Alberta.

The application was filed on 2 August 2022 by Local 362 of the General Teamsters Union.

The Teamsters are applying on behalf of 60 mechanics who work in the Fort McMurray for Diversified Transportation Ltd., which specializes in worker transportation to and from worksites in Northern Alberta. Its parent company is the Calgary-based Pacific Western Group of Companies.

The ALRB has scheduled a hearing for this application to occur on 16 August 2022.

This local is also the same one that was, this spring, trying to unionize workers at the Amazon fulfillment centre in Nisku, just south of Edmonton.

Since the ALRB doesn’t archive their new application reports, here’s a copy of the most recent one.
